RSVP-Northern Virginia (through Volunteer Fairfax) has just been designated a Certifying Organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Awards (PVSA), a program of Points of Light and AmeriCorps. We joined this program as another way of engaging and honoring our wonderful volunteers.
PVSA was started in 2003 to recognize “individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too.” Certifying Organizations record volunteer hours and submit them to PVSA to obtain certificates and other memorabilia for annual and lifetime hours of service. The certificates – whoop whoop! – are “signed” by the sitting president.
RSVP started counting hours towards awards with the start of G5Y1 (April 1, 2024). We will hold a reception for G5Y1 awardees with all volunteers invited, next fall.
So why are we telling you this now? So that you can, if you want, have your eye on the prize! Ask us how many hours you have so far this year. We’re about halfway in, and you could certainly aim for the Bronze, Silver, or Gold level honor.
Bronze – 100-249 hours in 12 months
Silver – 250-499 hours in 12 months
Gold – 500+ hours in 12 months
We’re excited! We can’t wait to recognize you next fall! And that’s ALL of you – every hour counts, and every volunteer has a heart of gold.
